What do you call a comedian who never swore, and never made fun of anyone other than himself?

I would call him "a genius", and he would be Tommy Cooper, my favourite comedian of all time.

Right from the moment I first saw him play out a sketch, I believed that if I, as a scriptwriter and a filmmaker were to observe him closely, I might learn something to help me with my craft.

If you're reading this, and you fancy taking up scriptwriting and/or filmmaking one day, try this simple test:

What do you reckon was the biggest lesson in filmmaking I learnt, just by observing the late great Tommy Cooper?

hullo, kak yasmin. just to add my two cents. my fav comedian would be rodney dangerfield and his 'no respect' jokes! admittedly, he did indulge in some off-colors and extremely risque jokes, but what i admire most about him was that he persevered despite repeated rejections and only became famous after 40!

mine would be ellen degeneres. There's a lot things gg around about her but she's one hell of a comedian.

She's a big star now but I prefer her when she was doing stand-up comedy.:)

the lesson i learnt with tommy cooper is about casting.

being the cast of your own show...you gotta have high expectations on yourself...and a critic towards your own performance...

that's like...HARD...

he make it through though... BRILLIANT!

Personally, I feel that all stand-up comedians are an Extraordinary bunch...it takes pure talent and perseverance...

thanks for dropping by my blog Kak Yasmin...its an HONOUR :)

Salam,

From watching TC,it reminds me of what Avner Eisenberg taught me few years ago:

"Don’t tell or show the audience what to think, do, or feel"

yasmin, i watched your session discussion on muallaf in singapore on youtube ....... i like the part when you guys start to discuss why you put big orkid and small orkid in the kite flying scene in mukhsin....and u came out with something like ' ...it is more real than logic ... ' - i thought that was a really cool explanation/perspective! i won't be surprised if one day you get to be invited to give a lecture ... you have that charisma ... in fact i think you should ;o)
